September equinox 202112/19/2023 The scales have to swing up and down to find their true balancing point, so give yourself space to explore, make mistakes, and try again as you find your flow and your balance this autumn and Libra season. Inner balance creates outer balance, so working on your inner state can have positive effects in other areas of your life, whether relationships, work, or beyond. Consider what aspects of your life are in balance and which aspects are asking for your action and attention so that they can shift into balance. Recognize that you have the ability to create balance in your life and your practice by giving yourself motion. Tips on moving into autumnĪs you move into the new season, keep in mind that jst like the Sun, which moves into balance and to extremes as the seasons shift, you also have to move in order to find your balance. Also, Libra rules the lumbar region of the back as well as the hips, and this is a moment when these areas can be strengthened by drawing your spine into balance as well as positioning your standing body well on the Earth. Balancing postures become especially important at this time, as returning to the midline of the body brings energetic balance both physically and energetically to all areas of life. This type of inward motion is needed at the autumn equinox. You might find yourself wanting practices that coax you to slow down and that draw you inward. The strong sequences from summer may feel like too much at this time. Your yoga practice may also seem to shift during this time as you find yourself navigating life’s challenges and fitting in your practice. Likewise, outdated ways of being that you experienced in years past or even in recent summer months seem to fall away, and you may find yourself in a state of mental fluctuation as you navigate yourself, relationships, responsibilities, and the not-so-simple act of being alive. You might choose to take up new endeavors at this time, and opportunities may seem to arise all around you. Our minds seek some semblance of balance as we transition into a different season of life, work, and learning about ourselves and others. Similarly, the autumnal equinox is a moment when energies seem to ramp up and slow down rather erratically. Occasionally, true balance is reached, but much of the time, the scale hits highs and lows. Libra is symbolized by a scale, representing the aspect of consciousness which searches for balance. Libra is an air sign, and in astrology, air represents the mind. How the autumnal equinox affects your life and practice This moment also marks the end of Virgo season and the start of Libra season, the cardinal zodiac sign of fall. When the autumnal equinox occurs, the Northern Hemisphere transitions into fall and the Southern Hemisphere shifts to spring. Each time the Sun crosses the Equator, we experience an equinox, which is exactly equal hours of day and night. Little-known fact: The Sun and Earth’s relative positions to one another create not just seasons, but shifts in your life and, by extension, your yoga practice.Įach year, the sun’s pathway, as seen from Earth, moves from the Equator to the Tropic of Cancer, back to the Equator, to the Tropic of Capricorn, and back again. Hardest gymnastic moves12/19/2023 For a log roll your arms are at your sides, while for a pencil roll they are forming a point like a pencil above your head. This can be either on your stomach or on your back, and you roll to the side until you are back where you started with your body as perfectly parallel to it was when you started as possible. In order to do this skill you have to get down and be laying flat on the floor. Sideways RollĪ sideways roll has a number of other possible names that it can be called by, some of which include log roll, pencil roll, or the barrel roll, though there is a difference between a couple of those sideways rolls. This also can make it easier to do on the balance beam which is where it is seen more. This is because instead of going all the way around over your head, you are simply going diagonally over one shoulder. While this is not as common in artistic gymnastics as it is in rhythmic gymnastics, a shoulder roll is faster than a full front roll. This can be a very easy skill to learn and simply put is nothing more than rolling backwards to the point where your hands are on the ground and going from there straight into a handstand which is often used as a pose position. Some of these variations depend of what position you are starting or ending with such as pike, layout, or as mentioned the straddle position is another one that works for these. However, there are a couple of variations to the backward roll, just as there is to the forward roll as well. Like with the other roll, you start this one from a standing position and squat down some as you roll backwards. Backward RollĪ backward roll is only a little harder to do than a forward roll, the hardest part is often getting used to the backward motion. You do not really put much weight on your feet, instead going into a complete roll which will end with you being on your feet and facing the opposite direction that you were when you where in the handstand position that you started in. In order to do this skill you first start in a handstand position, up against the wall if your handstands are not quite stable yet, and then while keeping your torso as hollow as you can you should bend your feet down to touch the ground in front of you. This is a variation of the forward roll where you keep your legs apart as though you are straddling something during the whole roll as you both start and end with a straddling position. Push off with your legs in order to get rolling onto your back and keep your momentum going, swinging your arms through the air in order help you to your feet. The proper way to do a forward roll is to start from a standing position, crouch down as you lean forward with your hands facing forward and shoulder width apart, and then as your hands make contact with the ground to tuck your head down in between them. Sometimes this is referred to as a roly-poly and it is something that you are taught to do both starting and ending in a standing position. This is most likely the easiest gymnastics move that there is and it is without a doubt one of the very first ones that you will learn how to do in the first level of gymnastics. And acro skills are even further apart to posses for which you are required to hold a certain position, since these skills are all about movement. Though the acro skills do often involve being in the air, they are different from jumps and leaps mainly because of the fact that those do not feature any rotational movements or flips like acro movements do. Knowing what the acro skills are can help you know what your options are when it comes time for you to start working on making your routine. While many of these can be done quickly, and even need to be done quickly in the case of the handsprings, they should still be precise. Acro skills are essentially gymnastics moves that involve controlled movement. Ny times brisk walk12/18/2023 You might need to undergo a stress test or other evaluation before being cleared to do vigorous activity. Repeat this three to five times through.Įach week or two, increase your running interval and decrease your walking time, until you’re running continuously.Ĭheck with your doctor first if you’re being treated for heart disease or another chronic condition, or if you have symptoms like chest pain, Zielinski said. Then alternate a minute of jogging with three minutes of walking. Once this happens - usually after about a month or two - start adding in run-walk intervals. Gradually increase the duration, until you can stay on your feet for an hour.Īs you gain fitness, you’ll notice you must walk even faster to reach moderate intensity. Aim for an effort level of 3 to 5 on a scale of 10. Set aside 10 minutes for brisk walking three to four times per week, Olenick said. If you haven’t been exercising at all, begin by trying for an extra 3,000 walking steps per day, at least a few days per week. If you want to try running for the first time - or return to it - try this progression. “It’s always better to start or increase an exercise program by going slow and low,” Zielinski said. In fact, even experienced runners who take a break should gradually build back up. Bella Mehta, a rheumatologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Easing into walking first allows your body time to adapt, which in turn reduces risk, said Dr. Researchers have debunked myths that running will always wreck your knees, but short-term injuries are more common in runners than walkers. It’s high-impact and hard on your connective tissue. But after that, adding at least some vigorous exercise to your routine will increase the benefits. Whether you’re walking or running, consistency matters most. “The biggest benefit occurs when moving from none to a little” exercise, he said. They also had a 30% lower risk of dying over the next 15 years.Įven though he’s an enthusiastic proponent of running, Lee suggested looking at walking and running as being on a continuum. In a 2014 study, Lee and his colleagues found that regular runners - including those jogging slower than 6 mph - were 30% fitter than walkers and sedentary people. Those numbers make sense, given running’s effect on fitness. Regular 25-minute runs and 105-minute walks each resulted in about a 35% lower risk of dying during the following eight years. They found that regular five-minute runs extended subjects’ life spans as much as going for 15-minute walks did. In 2011, researchers in Taiwan asked more than 400,000 adults how much vigorous exercise (like jogging or running) and moderate exercise (like brisk walking) they did. But when it comes to the key outcome of longevity, some studies have found running to be even more effective than that. That might suggest that running is twice as good as walking. That can raise your level of effort to what’s known as vigorous activity, meaning you’re breathing hard enough that you can speak only a few words at a time.įederal health guidelines recommend 150 minutes to 300 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity, like brisk walking, or half as much for vigorous activity. For many people first starting out, running at any pace - even a slow jog - will make your heart and lungs work harder. This requires more force, energy and power than walking, Olenick said. Rather than lifting one foot at a time, running involves a series of bounds. So how does running compare with walking? It’s more efficient, for one thing, said Duck-chul Lee, a professor of physical activity epidemiology at Iowa State University. Studies suggest that moderate activity strengthens your heart and creates new mitochondria, which produce fuel for your muscles, Olenick said. If you’re working hard enough that you can still talk but not sing, you’ve crossed from light to moderate physical activity. But bigger benefits come when you begin walking faster, which raises your heart and breathing rates. Allison Zielinski, a sports cardiologist at Northwestern Medicine Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute.Įven doing a small amount of activity - like taking slow steps throughout the day - somewhat improves VO2 max compared with staying completely sedentary, according to a 2021 study of 2,000 middle-aged men and women. It’s also a strong predictor of life span, said Dr. The gold standard for assessing fitness is VO2 max, a measure of how much oxygen your body uses when you’re exercising vigorously. The second is the ultimate positive outcome: Does it help you live a longer life? One is the workout’s effect on your fitness - that is, how it improves the efficiency of your heart and lungs. When considering the health benefits of an activity like walking or running, there are two connected factors to keep in mind. Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times Steward healthcare lease nordblom12/18/2023 is a self-advised real estate investment trust formed in 2003 to acquire and develop net-leased hospital facilities. There is no assurance that such approvals will be obtained or that other conditions will be satisfied. The resulting new 15-year lease with HCA Healthcare strongly validates our initial underwriting and $1.2 billion purchase price for these properties.”Ĭlosing of the sale by Steward to HCA Healthcare and completion of the HCA Healthcare master lease are expected in the first half of 2022, subject to the receipt of certain regulatory approvals and other customary conditions. In the four years since the initial transactions, Steward reported consistently increased revenue and EBITDAR and maintained attractive coverage levels. Our $1.2 billion investment in the Utah facilities was based in part on our confidence in Steward’s track record and ability to create sustainable cash flow to cover rental payments by at least 200%. Through this new master lease agreement, we are pleased to continue to play an important role in supporting best-in-class care to communities in Utah, while continuing to expand and diversify our portfolio of operator relationships.”Īldag continued, “These transactions are confirmation of MPT’s underwriting expertise, which identifies facilities that are essential to communities, and support of healthcare operators in their efforts to improve healthcare delivery. “HCA is a well-known industry leader with a proven track record of improving patient care by leveraging its learning health system model capabilities. Aldag, Jr., MPT’s Chairman, President, and CEO. “We are excited to welcome HCA Healthcare to our family of world-class hospital operators,” said Edward K. The purchase price under either option scenario will not be less than fair value. HCA Healthcare will have certain options to purchase the facilities starting in 2028, while MPT will have certain options to sell the facilities to HCA Healthcare. The lease agreement will include five extension options of five years each, and rental payments will increase annually at CPI, subject to a 2.0% floor and 5.0% ceiling. Upon completion of the transaction between HCA Healthcare and Steward, MPT and HCA Healthcare will enter into a new 15-year master lease for the five Utah hospitals, with no change to the cash rent payable to MPT under the existing Steward master lease. Since the acquisition of the Utah hospitals in 2017, MPT has recorded more than $300 million in real estate rent and interest from these properties. Following completion of this agreement with HCA Healthcare and closing of other recently announced transactions, the percentage of MPT’s portfolio represented by Steward assets is expected to decrease to approximately 17%. MPT’s purchase price of $1.2 billion for the Utah hospitals represents approximately 5.0% of the Company’s total pro forma gross assets, which will place HCA Healthcare among the five largest tenants in the MPT portfolio. (the “Company” or “MPT”) (NYSE: MPW) today announced that it has entered into an agreement to lease substantially all of its Utah hospitals to HCA Healthcare (“HCA Healthcare”) (NYSE: HCA), following an agreement by HCA Healthcare to purchase the operations of five Utah facilities from Steward Health Care System (“Steward”), for which the financial terms of the sale will remain confidential. BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-( BUSINESS WIRE)-Medical Properties Trust, Inc. Magical knack pathfinder explained12/18/2023 If you are taking continuous damage, such as from an acid arrow or by standing in a lake of lava, half the damage is considered to take place while you are casting a spell. The interrupting event strikes during spellcasting if it comes between the time you started and the time you complete a spell (for a spell with a casting time of 1 full round or more) or if it comes in response to your casting the spell (such as an attack of opportunity provoked by the spell or a contingent attack, such as a readied action). If you fail the check, you lose the spell without effect. Injury: If you take damage while trying to cast a spell, you must make a concentration check with a DC equal to 10 + the damage taken + the level of the spell you're casting. If you fail the check, you lose the spell just as if you had cast it to no effect. The more distracting the interruption and the higher the level of the spell you are trying to cast, the higher the DC (see Table: Concentration Check DCs). Finally, wizards add their Intelligence modifier. Bards, paladins, and sorcerers add their Charisma modifier. Clerics, druids, and rangers add their Wisdom modifier. When you make a concentration check, you roll d20 and add your caster level and the ability score modifier used to determine bonus spells of the same type. If something interrupts your concentration while you're casting, you must make a concentration check or lose the spell. ConcentrationĪffected by a non-damaging spell while casting (If you've prepared multiple copies of a single spell, you can cast each copy once.) If you're a bard or sorcerer, casting a spell counts against your daily limit for spells of that spell level, but you can cast the same spell again if you haven't reached your limit. Once you've cast a prepared spell, you can't cast it again until you prepare it again. You don't have to prepare (or learn, in the case of a bard or sorcerer) a specific version of the spell. If a spell has multiple versions, you choose which version to use when you cast it. Additionally, you must concentrate to cast a spell. To cast a spell, you must be able to speak (if the spell has a verbal component), gesture (if it has a somatic component), and manipulate the material components or focus (if any). If you're a bard or sorcerer, you can select any spell you know, provided you are capable of casting spells of that level or higher. If you're a cleric, druid, experienced paladin, experienced ranger, or wizard, you select from among spells prepared earlier in the day and not yet cast (see Preparing Wizard Spells and Preparing Divine Spells). Choosing a Spellįirst you must choose which spell to cast. Whether a spell is arcane or divine, and whether a character prepares spells in advance or chooses them on the spot, casting a spell works the same way. Despite these different ways characters use to learn or prepare their spells, when it comes to casting them, the spells are very much alike. Most spellcasters prepare spells in advance-whether from a spellbook or through prayers-while some cast spells spontaneously without preparation. Some spellcasters select their spells from a limited list of spells known, while others have access to a wide variety of options. Spells come in two types: arcane (cast by bards, sorcerers, and wizards) and divine (cast by clerics, druids, and experienced paladins and rangers). The train is just not that profitable so it's margins are low - and it moves just a few people to the back of the park where you don't really yet have the money to build up anyway. Allowing the train to continue doesn't help this. This means the cost you're spending to operate the rides is slowly draining your bank account in the background while in no way making up for it through ride tickets. I was many times tempted to immediately make the big coasters accessible - but new guests simply won't travel that far into the park. Once everyone's out of the park, create a cute and fun entrance area with decorations and rides etc. Also as long as there are no guests in this part of the park, the cleanliness of those paths actually won't matter.Ĭleanliness is what the patrons SEE and includes restrooms and food stands which must be cleaned as well. 2) The road design is hard to replicate whenever you do return to fix up this part of the park for actual guests - so leaving some will remind you how guests previously threaded through the big guys in the back of the park. The reason I leave a network of roads near the coasters in the back of the park is to 1) quickly train a new crop of janitors who need things to clean to level up. Leaving these rides open is an understandable choice - but it was always a money draining mistake in the early days of the scenario. Closing them ends the bleeding immediately. The rides are highly rated but already unprofitable. Then I closed down all attractions except for the train - which I used to get guests to the front (and thus exit) asap. I closed the parks and deleted MOST of the roads to speed up the cleanliness rating, which comes with a money bonus. Costs a lot of money to feed that giant - so only wake it up when it will provide a decent profit margin. Having a giant coaster in your park is like a sleeping giant. It also shows us that coasters are expensive to run BUT when shut down cost nothing at all. The conclusion being that guests will not travel long distances in a new park to ride anything - even highly rated roller coasters - without having comparable experiences along the way. I think this scenario's "lesson" is teaching us how the game simulates guest traffic as well as ride costs vs their revenue - in other words Profit Margin. So once I figure out the "lesson" I'm usually able to beat them quickly. All the scenarios seem designed to teach us the game and showcase aspects of whats being simulated for us we may not notice right away. Obsessively replayed this until I beat it.
